Evaluation of a Planar Reconfigurable Phased Array Antenna Driven by a Multi-Channel Beamforming Module at Ka Band

In this paper, a planar active phased array antenna demonstration with linear polarization (LP) at Ka Band (28-30 GHz) is presented. The proof of concept carried out to evaluate the possible problems that may arise, analyze calibration stages and assess viability integration an system Multi-Channel Beamforming Module (MCBM). To fulfill task $8\times 8$ -element arranged in column subarrays $1\times elements for 1D beam steering proposed. single element consists printed circular patch connected microstrip feeding line through metallic vias multilayered structure. Both amplitude phase distributions are performed by commercial integrated circuit (IC) designed transmission purposes, from common port each 8 output ports. Thus, evaluation IC performance also included within work. Despite inherent errors IC, beam-steering accuracy reasonable. A nice correspondence between simulated measured directions obtained, below 1° beam.
